Unusual in the family of corals, this species -Halomitra Pileus- is a free-living coral, thin, delicate, and circular, sometimes dome or bell-shaped. I mean, they are not attached to the ground. Colonies can be large, covering extensive areas of horizontal substrate. They are Pale brown, frequently with a bright pink or purple margin, especially at night when they feed.
Originating from the Solomon Islands, the sale of this specimen is subject to strict regulation under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
